Behold the Drowned City

Behold the Drowned City

A sunken city. A sleeping sickness. A rising tide.

The time has come. Cthulhu has awakened.

In the dramatic fight to save Arkham, it will take the investigators everything they’ve got to put the dreamer back to rest and save their city from complete annihilation. Arkham will never be the same, and neither will its heroes.

The Drowned City storyline spans multiple games, novels, and official accessories from our partners at Fantasy Flight Games, Z-Man Games, Aconyte Books, and Loot Studios. Check out our Lore pages to discover the investigators, monsters, Ancient Ones, and Other Worlds at the heart of the mystery, and pick up your copy of the Arkham Advertiser for the local paper’s coverage on the impending storms.

Read on to discover what all lies in store for you as you behold the Drowned City in all its wretched and cyclopean glory.

Pore Over the Novels

The chronicle begins with The Forbidden Visions of Lucius Galloway by Carrie Harris. In this prequel novel, poet Lucius Galloway is offered a prestigious position translating a mysterious ancient text at Harvard University, but when he realizes his visions of a sunken city and the tome are connected, he must solve the mystery at the heart of the translation before the hidden figures dogging his footsteps catch up to him.

The saga continues with The Nightmare Quest of April May by Rosemary Jones. In Arkham, a mysterious sleeping sickness has taken hold, and April May, an advertising salesperson at the Arkham Advertiser, is drawn in to a mysterious adventure – alongside some familiar faces from the game.

Stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion to the trilogy in the third and final novel.

Dive Into the Card Game

The centerpiece of the Drowned City storyline is the eponymous The Drowned City Campaign Expansion. In this thrilling expansion, one to four investigators explore the mysterious and deadly city of R’lyeh as it rises from the ocean’s depths. As players venture into the tomb-like ruin, they’ll scale the city’s crumbling foundations, scour the sea floor for alien artifacts, navigate mind-bending machinery and shifting corridors, and discover an ancient history that was drowned with the city itself. Along the way, they’ll experience a unique story that changes based on their chosen investigators, and it all culminates in a climactic battle against Cthulhu himself! Best of all, players only need a copy of the Arkham Horror: The Card Game Revised Core Set to dive into the story.

That being said, players might wish to expand their deckbuilding options with The Drowned City Investigator Expansion, featuring six new investigators for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. Marion Tavares, Lucius Galloway, Michael McGlen, Agatha Crane, Gloria Goldberg, and George Barnaby join the lineup of investigators to help ensure Arkham’s survival. The expansion adds a trove of new player cards and options for deckbuilding, including brand-new “Specialist” cards that play off investigators’ traits.

As a warm-up (or a chaser) to the eldritch adventure of the novels and card game, grab a copy of Arkham Horror Lovecraft Letter, a chilling twist on the classic deduction card game. Delve into the madness of the Cthulhu Mythos as you face eldritch horrors and uncover allies tainted with madness in this gripping battle of wits. Can you maintain your sanity and outwit Cthulhu, or will you succumb to the creeping darkness that lurks within?

And coming soon, Turn of a Page is a wholly digital scenario for Mansions of Madness: Second Edition that ties in narratively with the Drowned City campaign for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. After a group of investigators returns from an expedition to R’lyeh carrying powerful new artifacts, it falls to your investigators to uncover more of the story, claiming those artifacts to defend Arkham against the rising doom. You need only the base game of Mansions of Madness to play, but if you own any of the expansions, the scenario can optionally incorporate that content. Turn of a Page will feature multiple ways to vary the gameplay and map so that there is something new to discover every playthrough.
