As the nights grow longer and days grow colder, plan a vacation to the greatest city in the American South! Songs of New Orleans comes out on October 30th, and within its pages you’ll find the most comprehensive and terrifying guide to the Big Easy and the horrors that lurk within.
Songs of New Orleans is a complete setting sourcebook for the city of New Orleans and its many mysteries created for Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game. Fans of Arkham Horror, eldritch terror, and thrilling adventure alike are all sure to find excitement within its 144 pages.
Two Cities to Explore
This book features a detailed examination of not one, but two very important and fascinating cities. The first, of course, is New Orleans. Songs of New Orleans delves into the publicly known and shadowy and mysterious elements of New Orleans. Over 45 pages take you from the dilapidated and decaying French Quarter to the vibrant heart of the Central Business District, then into the sprawling (and somewhat haunted) expanse of City Park and across the river into bustling Algiers.
The second city, however, is the graveyard of cities, the lost and terrible metropolis of Carcosa. Beneath the ruddy, twilight glow of the red giant Aldebaran, the Immemorial City slowly decays, even as it feeds its slumbering master beneath the Lake of Hali with the tortured nostalgia of a million trapped souls. Occasionally, those unfortunate enough to travel through haunted Carcosa will find buildings they recognize, for Carcosa inexorably pulls the ghosts of dying civilizations (and their unfortunate inhabitants) into its clammy embrace.
A New Investigator Joins the Party
Songs of New Orleans also gives players a whole new archetype with which to build their investigators. The musician uses the power of song and music to empower their friends and influence (or befuddle) their foes. Some even develop nigh-supernatural abilities. These abilities are represented by a powerful new die type, the music die, that is unique to these investigators.
The Power of Voodoo
In addition to the new archetype with a host of new abilities, this book also delves into the power and history of voodoo. A faith practice that blends traditions from western Africa and Catholicism with the history of hundreds of years of enslavement, oppression, and defiance against both, voodoo is a powerful tool that anyone has the opportunity to use, but only the truly dedicated can master. Those who successfully use it may find a singularly effective resource against the eldritch forces that seek to destroy reality.
And no book on New Orleans would be incomplete without an adventure; or multiple adventures in this case! Besides a half-dozen adventure vignettes that can be added into existing campaigns or fleshed out by enterprising GMs, Songs of New Orleans also features a full-length adventure. Can you save the Big Easy from the horrors of the King in Yellow?
