Inescapable Grasp
Asterias’s physical form is that of a behemothic starfish with seven arms, each reaching in different directions to ensnare the world upon which it rests. Its reach can extend far beyond its corporal body, however, as its vast psychic power corrupts mortal minds into its service. Any may fall prey to this influence, but those with insatiable desires of their own are especially easy for Asterias to dominate.
Nearly Destroyed
Asterias has been consuming longer than any mortal could conceive, until the day it came upon a civilization that nearly destroyed it: The Deep Ones. The exact details of how these underwater, fishlike humanoids defeated Asterias has been lost to time. What is known is that they didn’t exactly finish the job. One piece of Asterias survived his destruction, and from even one single piece of flesh, Asterias can reform.
Regeneration and Resurrection
The process of resurrecting Asterias is not a simple one. Asterias must have followers help to bring him back. First, someone must first find and touch one of Asterias’ many amulets. Upon touching one of the seven-pointed star amulets, the wielder is “told” that Asterias is an immense and unfathomable entity and serving its purposes promises supernatural powers beyond mortal comprehension.
They are granted also powers, such as increased health, strength and reflexes. They may also now reproduce asexually, whereas, they can cut off a part of their body and grow a replica version of themselves, called a comet.
The wearer of the amulet and their comets then search for the flesh of Asterias. Once they find it, the flesh of Asterias must be placed in a special pool of saltwater, and a ritual must be performed to slowly begin the regeneration process. Eventually, Asterias’ maw will reform, allowing food to be ingested, dramatically increasing the speed of regeneration.
Eventually, Asterias regains its full strength and will once again consume everything.
