Husserl Patriarch Missing: Police Eye Family for Culprit!

New Money Flooding into Arkham

One evening, Elias Husserl Sr., noted philanthropist and businessman, visited French Hill and never returned. While the police are pursuing several leads regarding his disappearance, this reporter has learned that the persons of most interest to the investigation, reluctantly under scrutiny by Arkham Police, are much closer to home: the Husserl family members themselves.

Charity Begins at Husserl Home

Elias Sr is, of course, known for his charitable efforts, and the city of Arkham has benefited enormously from both his generosity and from the economic bounty generated by his business affairs. It will be a sad day for Arkham if, as many fear, the worst has happened to him.

While Elias Sr. has earned quite the sparkling reputation, the same cannot be said for his immediate family. His wife, Josephine, undoubtedly Arkham’s premier social hostess, has been active in her show of concern for her husband’s well-being. Nevertheless, she has also been openly critical of police efforts. Sources say that she has even engaged the services of a renowned private investigator. As the police have been nothing if not diligent in many parts of their investigation, the question has arisen as to how much of Josephine Husserl’s public anxiety is a misleading performance.

Children: Debtors and Delinquents

As for the children in the family, it is well known that their activities have done much to bring disrepute upon the Husserl name. Of them all, the one who invites the greatest suspicion is, arguably, Albrecht Husserl. A habitué of the racetracks and infamously seen at Red Sox opener games, Albrecht is notorious for his unflagging enthusiasm for the thrill of the bet, and for his equally impressive bad luck. The extent of his debts is the subject of much rumor, but that they are extensive is beyond doubt. Police should have an interest in learning what legacy might come his way should his father be deceased, and what debts might be paid off in the event of the patriarch’s demise.

Though not a gambler as such, Elias Jr.’s self-inflicted misfortunes are of a different kind. He presents himself as a financier, and while his father’s name has come down to him, the business acumen has not. Nor are the two daughters above suspicion, or without delusion. Lina’s ambitions run to the art world. Her attempts to make a name for herself with her disturbing paintings have, to date, been fruitless. Compared to the surreal, but at least compelling art of Kingsport darling “The Witch of Water Street” Deidre Sablewind, Miss Husserl’s attempts are mediocre at best.

As for Adele, estranged from her family, she publicly distances herself from her kin. How deep does her bitterness run? The answer to this question is also of interest to the police.

It seems odd how lackluster forces have been in “overturning every stone” to locate the missing man. This paper naturally hopes that Elias Sr. will be found safe and sound.
